German Bakery
A charming bakery with more than 30 years in the area, run by German owners who brought authentic recipes and flavors to Lake Arenal. I love the cozy atmosphere, fresh pastries, and excellent coffee—perfect for starting the day. Their breakfast menu includes traditional German dishes and freshly baked goods you won’t find anywhere else around the lake. German bakery & coffee 8-5 (Open daily)
Café con Amor
A cozy coffee spot with a lovely view of Lake Arenal, right on the main road. I really enjoy coming here for breakfast or brunch—the atmosphere is peaceful, the coffee is great, and the lake view makes it a beautiful place to start the day. Perfect for a slow morning with good food and a charming local feel. Coffee Shop & Breakfast 8-4 (Open Daily)
Lucky Bugs
A truly unique spot surrounded by beautiful gardens, hummingbirds everywhere, and a peaceful private lagoon. I love coming here for an unforgettable breakfast, combining German and American flavors in a magical setting. There’s also a small art gallery, making the whole experience feel special and one-of-a-kind. Definitely a place you should not miss. German & American breakfast 7:30-3 (Open daily)

Bar La Llorona
A friendly spot in the center of town with a beautiful lake view and a relaxed atmosphere. I like coming here for a casual drink, good music, and a fun, laid-back vibe. They offer alcoholic beverages, tapas, and quick bites, plus board games that make it a great place to spend time with friends or enjoy a family-friendly evening. Ocaso Café Bar
Tilarán has some of the most beautiful sunsets in the area, and this is the perfect place to enjoy them. With a lovely terrace overlooking the horizon, you can relax with a good coffee or a refreshing drink while watching the sky change colors. The weekend atmosphere is lively, and they also offer food—making it a great spot to unwind in the afternoon or enjoy a casual night out. Sunset & Party 12pm-12am (Cosed Mon)
La Kantina Bar
A lively local cantina right in Nuevo Arenal where you’ll find great music, dancing, and a true Costa Rican town atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where locals go to enjoy Latin hits, reggaetón, salsa, and popular music at high volume—perfect if you’re looking for a fun and authentic night out. The space is casual, energetic, and always ready for a good party, making it a great stop to experience real local nightlife. Dance & Drink 7pm-2am (Closed Mon/Tues/wed)
Bambú Bar & Pizzeria
A one-of-a-kind local bar with charming vintage decor and a truly authentic vibe. I love the laid-back atmosphere — there are screens to catch the games, pool tables for a fun night out, and great pizzas to share. A genuine local spot where you can relax and feel like one more in the crowd.

Casa Italia Restaurant
Authentic Italian cuisine in a charming garden setting with the perfect cool climate. I love their wood-fired pizzas and the true homemade flavors—you really feel that warm Italian touch. Ideal for a relaxed dinner surrounded by beautiful nature. Italian food / Oven Pizza 1–8 pm (Closed Wed)
Tinajas Restaurant
A beautiful spot for watching the sunset while enjoying dinner, coffee, or craft beer. I love coming here in the late afternoon—the views are amazing, and the atmosphere becomes truly special as the sun goes down. The artwork on the walls lights up at night, creating a unique and impressive ambiance that makes this place feel magical after dark. International Sunset Spot 10am-8pm (Open every day)
Gingerbread Restaurant
Probably one of the most unique culinary experiences in the area. Gingerbread combines gourmet flavors with a creative twist, offering beautifully presented dishes in a cozy and intimate atmosphere. I recommend it when you want a memorable dining experience with exceptional food and a personal touch. Gourmet / Fine dining 3-7 (Closed Sun & Mon)
Eqqus Restaurant
A simple and traditional place with no luxury—just pure flavor. All their meats are cooked over wood fire, giving every dish an incredible authentic taste. My personal favorite is the bandeja mixta, a generous platter with chicken, pork, ribs, and more. For meet lovers 10am-9pm (Open every day)
Lake Arenal Hotel
Brewery & Farm
A unique lakeside dining experience with one of the most beautiful views in the area. I love coming here not only for the food, but for the atmosphere—spacious outdoor seating, fresh mountain breeze, and a relaxed setting perfect for enjoying the lake. The farm next door, the open spaces, and the natural surroundings make it a great spot to spend a slow afternoon, taste local flavors, and enjoy the scenery. Eat Alien Food
(Platillos Voladores)
Delicious Italian food in the heart of town, with a fun, one-of-a-kind theme. The restaurant is inspired by the legendary story of the extraterrestrials said to have visited nearby Lago Cote — a local legend brought to life through its quirky, playful decor. I love coming here for great pasta and pizza wrapped in a setting you won't find anywhere else.
Moya's Place Pizzeria , Bar Restaurant
A local favorite in the heart of Nuevo Arenal. I love the relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and the variety of international dishes—there’s always something for everyone. It’s one of my go-to places for a casual meal, good portions, and a welcoming vibe after exploring the area. International & Casual 12-9:30 (Open every day)
Typical Food & Sodas
Soda La Parada
Located right next to the bus station, this is one of the best spots for traditional Costa Rican food around Lake Arenal. I love coming here for a hearty breakfast or a strong lunch—plates are generous, delicious, and very local. They also have simple favorites like hamburgers and chicken fingers, all with super friendly service. A great place to taste real Costa Rican flavors. Brakfast and lunch 6am –3pm (Closed Sun)
Soda y Heladeria Arenal
A cozy family-run spot right in the center of town, located in front of the soccer field and the church. It’s the only place to enjoy ice cream in Nuevo Arenal, and they also serve delicious traditional dishes like casados, as well as favorites such as nachos, patanachos, and patacones—plus simple fast-food options. A great stop for a casual bite or a sweet treat. Lunch & Dinner 11am-10pm (Open Daily)
Soda La Plaza
If you're looking for a typical Costa Rican breakfast, this is the place. Vianey, a lovely local character, will welcome you and cook your meal herself. Enjoy a completely local, traditional atmosphere and a true taste of everyday life in Nuevo Arenal. A genuine spot I always recommend.
La Tortuga Arenal Restaurant
If you want to enjoy typical Costa Rican food with an incredible view of Lake Arenal, this is the place. You'll find well-prepared traditional dishes and a varied menu to suit every taste, all set in a beautiful garden with stunning lake views. One of my favorite spots to eat while taking in the scenery.
